Cougar On The Hunt - By Native Artist Audrey Nanimahoo

Cougar On The Hunt
Soapstone on Oak
16 x 12 x 8
35 Pounds

Private Collection

The story behind this sculpture is when I first began to carve soapstone three years ago, I began by carving very small pieces of soapstone. When I had finally figured out the process by trial and error and teaching myself, I was finally ready to attempt to carve my first large piece of soapstone. My husband put the stone on the kitchen table and that was were it stayed for eight months until it was finished. That was also the image that I had seen in the stone. I knew just were to hit the hammer. This was my official first piece that I carved using all hammer and chisel, files and rasps, and sand paper.
