Mary-Elizabeth Symons

Presently, I am an artist who paints where the sea ends in an arched curl at Deep Bay, its back up against the mountains. I paint in isolated splendor: a garden, a road, a sunflower, the inside of a wave - nature at its wildest, uninhibited by intellectual highbrow or low culture. My current focus is oil on canvas although I still continue to develop some of my work using watercolour and inks. While the days are full with teaching, writing and painting, music (opera, jazz and classical) and hiking are myother passions. Where there is music there is poetry.

Prior to moving to the island I instructed creative writing, drawing and painting at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby. During that period my solo exhibits included shows at Place des Arts, Coquitlam; Seymour Art Gallery, North Vancouver; Klee Wyck Gallery, West Vancouver; Centennial Lodge, New Westminster and Torrefacione Italia in West Vancouver. Group shows included Douglas College, New Westminster; Place des Arts, Coquitlam; Sharli Gallery, North Vancouver; and the Michele Frost Gallery, Victoria.

Several of my paintings are on the website and while I believe the internet to be an economic place to market art works, my preference is to display the original painting, particularly before a commitment to purchase.
