An award winning Saskatchewan artist, Bill Philpott graduated from Medicine Hat College, Medicine Hat Alberta with a diploma in VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS. He also holds a Certificate in FUNDAMENTALS OF ART from Art Instruction Schools Minneapolis Mn.
Bill lives in the Living Skies province, Saskatchewan, and his art is about Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Life.
Quite suitably the skies of Saskatchewan are significant to Bill's work. Home is Central Butte Saskatchewan and largely his subjects exist nearby. Bill received wise council as a young artist when he received the following advice "To avoid pretentiousness, paint what you know." So Bill continues to paint his home on the prairies.
Bill's family were renowned in the breeding world of purebred shorthorn cattle and purebred charolais cattle world wide. His parents Edgar and Lily Philpott subsequently filled Bill 's younger life with much travel around western Canada and many tours through the United States of America.
Most often a trip included tours of art galleries and museums. A deep understanding and respect for history and culture matured in Bill's heart, a love of the land and much emotion in what he paints.
It is amazing how it all comes to life in his art!
Artist's Statement
Bill Philpott, specializing in Saskatchewan Art, Prairie Art. I live in an almost undiscovered area of the province concerning the art world. Tourism is just breaking the news on us!
I live just twenty minutes from Lake Deifenbaker as well as twenty minutes from the sourse of the Qu'appelle river valley and the Thunder Creek valley, all significant in Canadian history.
The area is prime with beauty and interesting characters. I try to capture for posterity the rich patterns in the landscape, the poetry in paint! Uniquely the plains of Saskatchewan and of course now we dance in The Land of the Living Skies! My fancy loves to take a little snippet from our home that has just been passed by, that no one has bothered to see and draw out its beauty.
We here live in a tension between the multi-million dollar mechanized agriculture industry and the relics of the old west! My work is awe inspired of the land I love and would make a truly original gift. Paintings and Ink Drawings for sale that Bill Philpott brings to life. Even Bill Philpott's religious art has a uniquely Saskatchewan twist. Personally Saskatchewan art always lifts my Spirit!
