Carol Nelson Meleshko

Biography

Carol was born in Camrose, Alberta, where her rural childhood was spent. Many of her early adult years were spent living in various urban environments across Canada. Her interest in art began before she went to school. Her Grade 5 teacher encouraged her interest in art and from there her dream to become an 'artist' was conceived. She carried on with her interest in painting while raising a family as well working at a 'real job' for many years. In 1984, she moved to Calgary in pursuit of a new career. After spending many years as a hobbyist painter, Carol decided to take on the role as a full-time artist in 1993.

Although primarily self taught, she has studied under the tutorship of many accomplished artists as well as attending a watercolour course at the Alberta College of Art, a drawing course at Red Deer College, and many workshops.

She proudly presents her love of art in several mediums - primarily oil and acrylic, but works with watercolour, pen and ink and pencil especially for field studies. She recently began experimenting with acrylic. Her subject matter is very diversified. She paints portraits, still lifes, street scenes, scenery and florals. She is best known for her figurative work. Her use of colour and design, give her paintings a realistic, dimensional feeling. Because she paints from her soul, she chooses her subject matter very carefully. She studies it, feels it, and absorbs it. Each painting holds a special meaning to her.

Carol's work has been displayed in many juried and non-juried shows, group shows in various galleries as well as in the Artist's Direct Show in the Round-up Centre. She is an active member of the Interpretations Artists' Association and the Canadian Federation of Artists (National membership). Examples of her work may be found in private and corporate collections across Canada. A mural entitled 'Rhythms of the Caribbean' commissioned by the International Avenue BRZ is located on ATB Financial on International Avenue in Calgary.

An extensive portfolio of hand enhanced giclees on canvas and original works in oils and acrylics may be seen at Arts on Atlantic Fine Art Gallery located in historical Inglewood (Address 1331-9th Ave SE) also check the galleries website www.artsonatlantic.com. Carol is also being represented by Artspace Gallery (1235-26th Ave SE).
