This is one of 8 Species of Bowerbirds in Australia. The males of all Species build "Bowers" (where Display and Mating occurs) in varying styles that they decorate with quite specific objects. The Satin prefers blue objects; naturally, flowers and Snail shells, but blue plastic .. straws, pegs, and bottle tops have become highly sought and prized. The males take several years to develop their splendid Adult Plumage, living in mottled green/brown through their "youth".
