Biography

Denis Mayer Jr., knew he would become an artist at a very young age.

It was in his 6th grade that he was named to have the best presentation on his nature project that required drawings and research.

Not long after Denis started to work and trained with his dad in the commercial signs industry. After working a few years in doing letterings on trucks, signs etc…Denis soon found out that this was not the passion that he was dreaming about. His dad always encouraged him in pursuing his dreams therefore he closed his sign shop and went into architectural rendering business.

Denis felt that he had just stepped into a whole different, new world. He then discovered the art of Mr. Pierre Paul Martineau P.P. who was his idol and inspired him in doing house renderings. Denis became specialized and obtained a very unique style of his own which he says "it's all about warmth" for him. It's always important to feel the warmth of a home, a porch light by a lantern, a sunset breaking through the leaves or a backlight effect. Many people thought that his work was similar to Thomas Kinkade's paintings, except Denis adds more textures and technical details. I don't draw houses he says I draw homes and that's make a big difference for me.

But Denis' passion always seemed to look for more. He discovered that doing commercial illustrations would also be very challenging. It was then that he had the opportunity to visit Charlie Vinh's studio for the first time in his life in which he was very impressed with his work. They are still good friends up to this day.

Again Denis became very competitive in airbrush art serving advertising agencies, graphic designers, and private companies. It took fruit illustration for Denis to really fall in love with doing food illustrations in which today his work is widely used across North America for food packaging.

His worst enemy is digital illustration but Denis believes that some client will always appreciate to have a personal identity to their work. Not to mention that nature has a very special place in his heart and he enjoys painting wildlife above anything else.

Today Denis lives with his wife and three kids combining architectural rendering, commercial art and wildlife paintings. His wildlife art has been commissioned by private collectors, art galleries and his reproductions can be seen across America.
