I was six years old when noticed by a neighbourhood painter. While sitting for him portraying a little girl picking red poppies surrounded by green fields, I become mesmerized by his ability and his studio. Soon he found me at his door steps watching and could not wait to get my hands on his brushes and tubes of paints... even though I was terrified of his dogs. I believe that my life-long passion for art had started at that time.
From age 18 I've studied art and design in Budapest. When I was 22 my grandparents brought me to Canada. Soon I realized that painting and poor English would not allow me to leave the farm behind. In the nearby town in Ontario I landed a job in the hospital lab where I worked and studying tirelessly to learn English and a few years later become a laboratory technologist. Living and working in many places in Ontario and the Maritimes my art had to take a second place but always was the first in my heart. Taking a long break from the medical field in Ottawa I begin to study art again by attending art schools, seminars by art institutes and renewed artists in Canada, Budapest and USA. I held many exhibits throughout Ontario the Maritimes, USA, and in Hungary. I was invited to juried fine art exhibits and won a few prizes. In the same time I taught art classes, workshops and seminars; donated many works for good causes and moved around quite a bit.
Using many layers of hues, tones and color temperatures, I mainly paint intuitively while my paintings capture the substance of the landscape without photo realism. Understanding that I can translate my close study of nature into pleasing paintings, I let my imagination take over until I have created a work that is often mystic, spiritual and energetic. The less realistic my work is the more a viewer drawn in and want to stay...the place has stirred up some feelings and emotions...if I was able to create this moment in a person I did my job well.
I'm driven to learn, paint and teach others. This has seen several of my students move an to become very accomplished artists on their own. I will never stop the learning process; especially interested in the works of the luminists and tonalists. My paintings allow for contemplation and reflection...a glimpse, a thought, a feeling.
I believe that artists know all the rules, have the knowledge but the most important is that how they use it and what they do with it. My most favourite artist and philosopher George Innes has put it in wonderful words:
Now I live in the picturesque P.E.I.; working in my home studio and enjoying the most beautiful sunsets from across the Atlantic shores.
