"I paint almost daily and receive inspiration by travel, and by working on location wherever I go. Having painted and lived in Canmore for many years, I got a real sense of the majesty of the mountains in all their varied mood and season."
Elaine Fleming was born in Alberta. She studied art and music in university, taught school, then married and painted only occasionally while raising a family. In 1968 she began painting seriously, and had her first one-person show in 1975.
Since that time she has had at least one or two solo exhibitions annually, as well as participation in numerous group shows each year. Included among them are exhibitions in Toronto, Vancouver, the National Art Center, Ottawa, and invitational shows in Toronto, the Bahamas, Quebec City, Montreal and Florida. Although she has attended many art seminars conducted by internationally known artists, her main focus has been on developing her own style through experimentation in different media, and she now works in both oils and watercolors.
Best known for her mountain scenes, she also travels and paints in many areas, gathering material, sketches and on-site paintings for completion in her studios. Early in her career, she outfitted a van as a mobile studio, which has facilitated her preference for working on location. It also afforded her the opportunity to travel and paint in many different locations in North America.
Her work is represented in galleries in Western Canada and her mood evoking paintings form part of corporate and private collections in many countries. The corner Gallery is located on main street in the heart of Canmore across from the historic Canmore Hotel, with convenient parking in the rear.
