Live Portrait Step 1 - By Canadian Artist Ellen Cowie

This portrait is in its beginning stage. The image you see has been created after one hour of painting while the subject posed in person. For this type of portrait, Ellen is taking no photographs of her subject, as this entire painting will be done from life. Ellen creates this initial sketch in oil and therin sets the basic design for composition. The portrait is being created on a canvas that is 24 inches wide by 30 inches high.
