Subsequent to our last visit, the judge sat for three more sittings of 1 to 2 hours each for three days in a row. I also worked on the painting for several additional hours after the judge had left.
I have the robes at my home so am able to work on the clothing at my leisure and work exclusively on her face, hands and legs when she is here in person.
At this point in the painting process, I have looked at the person for such a length of time that I can see whether the person is looking back at me from the canvas or not. Right now, I still have not quite caught the individual and I can plainly feel that the person looking back at me from the canvas is not the person I have before me at the sittings.
Regardless, that nuance is the challenge for me as a portrait artist. I have repositioned her arms, hands and legs. I have done a fair bit of work on the robes as well. At this stage, I will let the painting dry, as I am in the general area of capturing the face, but not quite there yet.
There will be another sitting or two before the final portrait is captured on canvas. I hope you as the viewer are enjoying this process.
