Each painting is a celebration of one of nature's most delicate gifts. That's why they're big and bold. I want to make sure they command the attention they deserve. Flowers talk to me and I try and talk back through my paintings. I am still captivated by the diversity of flowers, their shapes and colors .... an endless supply of inspiration.
My oil paintings are large, typically 36" x 48", and take from 3-6 months to complete. I capture the bold colors, light, and shadow in a hyper realistic style to make the flowers come off the canvas. Over the last year or so I have also been painting in the Encaustic medium. Like my Oils, my Encaustics emphasize the bold colors, light and shadows but with a looser style. My Encaustics have a vibrancy all their own as a result of light interacting with the colored wax to yield a whole new look..that are…always in bloom.

Jackie Miller

My motivation and inspiration come from the movement and colours of my environment. My paintings are a suggestion of what I encounter daily their interpretation is subject to what you feel.
I paint a number of subjects, from fruits to abstract, infusing vivid color into each image, bringing new life to old topics. The common thread is that each holds and shares a distinctive attitude and presence. From whimsical cityscapes with rhythmic patterns to lose simple images where the paint and it's texture define the painting.
Using distinctive, strong and vivid colors, the artist invites you into her images in hopes that it will evoke emotion and interaction.

Val Moker

|
Canadian artist Val Moker's strong suit is seen in her attention to detail, displaying in macros of nature's flora and interaction of people in various settings. Her compositions capture atmosphere, character and emotion, resulting in harmonious and crisp compositions that hold the viewer's focus, a true compliment to her ability.
"I have been blessed with the privilege to create. This is something that I have chosen not to take for granted. I am constantly researching, visualizing and then composing pictures in my mind, so that when it comes time to place my brush to canvas or paper, it is a channeling of a vision I've already created. Feelings, thoughts, beliefs, atmosphere . . . these are some of the ingredients that go into the stories that are told in my paintings. Am I looking at the window or through the window?"

Catherine O'Byrne

As a prairie artist, I'm a member of Regina's Rosemont Art Gallery, of the Aurora Art Guild, and of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association. I work for the provincial government, but in my spare time paint as much as I can, and teach the occasional watercolour course.
Viewers have described my artwork as "whimsical fantasy", "oriental", or "mystical" , regardless of the subject - which tends to be things we don't normally think twice about: that little frog clinging to a stalk in the garden; a caterpillar crawling on a stem; a lizard stalking a fly; snails on a mushroom. My artwork tends to belong to one of three categories - those little "critters" mentioned above, garden-type landscapes with a slightly oriental leaning, and monochrome subjects in grays or browns, ranging from landscapes to - so far: bulrushes (cattails), dandelions, dragonflies, fawns and birds.
My artwork has found homes, so far, from Ottawa to Victoria, as well as England and Wales, in the US from Florida to California, and in Australia and New Zealand.

Nancy Osadchuk

|
Nancy is an Alberta artist working in a variety of media, with a mainly representational style. She has a good knowledge of things botanical, and a love of nature in general. Paintings are often begun on site, capturing the moment with sketches, painting, or photography. Florals, still life and landscape are favorite subjects.
Her printmaking efforts include etchings, monoprints and Moku Hanga, (the traditional Japanese method of woodcut, using water-based pigments.)

Jim Pescott

|
There are no defining lines in his work. Jim applies acrylic paint to canvas using layered "spots and dots" brush strokes to blend shapes together while also ensuring their uniqueness is supported through strong bright colours. Subject material is sourced from nature and ranges from individual flower blossoms to broad landscapes of fields, prairie, trees, mountains, water and sky that can be found almost anywhere, yet are unique to where people live and call home. Jim has lived in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. He now lives in Calgary, Alberta.
"I'm self taught, my style expresses much about how I feel about relationships in nature."

Gene Prokop

|
Gene Prokop, Edmonton Alberta artist and art teacher. Gene Prokop's works of art focus on creating mood and drama using romantic brushstrokes of the Old Masters. Gene teachs others the skills and techniques he has acquired, towards classical realism and naturalism. Pro's Art School in Edmonton Alberta, is a school that teaches the techniques of drawing, perspective and composition in oil painting. Students are guided through the styles of Classical Realism, Naturalism, Gesture and Impressionism. Students work in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere. People work in the school as one big family, helping and encouraging one another. Many students work hard to better themselves, but still think of the group not just of themselves.

I like to think that my work exhibits the interaction of colour, design and natural light, bringing freshness to each subject. Mood, which I illustrate through the design of light and its interplay with the subject of the scene, is a common thread in most of my work. I recently expanded my canvas to the larger dimension of 40 X 40 inches and in some subjects 40 X 60 inches and ventured into the medium of acrylics, thus expanding my communication with the viewer. I love doing commission assignments and taking on the challenge of transferring to canvass the patrons emotion and interpretation of mood in the subject. I have worked with patrons incorporating their artefacts into a still-life. I have also consulted with respect to the commissioning of painting(s) to best suit a particular home décor. I use my garden as inspiration for many floral interpretations.
