Annie Froese![]() |
Annie Froese has been painting in the medium of watercolours since her introduction to them in 1988. Over the years she has had the opportunity to study from artists whose work she has been drawn to. She feels fortunate for having found such wonderful mentors; people whose work she continues to respect and whose efforts she admires.
Annie finds a continuous source of inspiration from the ever-changing panoramas of Western Alberta. She has had the privilege of living in the foothills of Priddis and Bragg Creek, and now is surrounded by the openness of the prairies. Each setting has a character of its own and Annie enjoys capturing the varied moods of these areas as they undergo the changes that each session brings. |
Anne Gallant![]() |
Prince Edward Island is absolutely beautiful, the colours are amazing and this beauty is my inspiration. I grew up on a farm, near the shore so I had the best of both worlds; and that is what I paint: old barns, dories, the PEI coastline and the rolling hills. I dabble a bit in contemporary for fun! |

Denis Grosjean![]() |
Denis' style concentrates on luminous effects, detail and depth. More often than not, admirers of his original works are drawn into the painting, "So much so, you feel like you are there." Consistently, pleasant memories and present aspects of admirers lives are also evoked by Denis' original works.
A self taught fine Artist, Denis went on to sell his earlier works to private collectors within and in the surrounding areas of Pinceville, Quebec, Canada. These earlier works were of bold strokes with heavy paint which he still paints but are not the focus of his creativity. In fact, landscapes including water, abstracts and western scenes (which have been complimentary mistaken for C. Russell) are Denis' most gratifying creations. Throughout the years, Denis' original works have been shown in Canadian Art galleries located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. |
Valerie Hinz![]() |
Valerie Hinz (b. 1956) Valerie lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and has been a professional artist, working in television since 1979. In 2000, she left her job with the CTV affiliate to paint full time. One of her earlier commercial exhibitions was with the U.S. Arabian National Horse Show in Louisville, KY. There, she took a tour of Churchill Downs, where she viewed an exhibit of the works by the American Academy of Equine Art for the first time. She eagerly submitted work to future AAEA shows, where within two years, she gratefully accepted the 1992 Gordon Barton Memorial Award for Best in Show. Valerie attributes the AAEA for giving her the start she needed in the equine art world. The publicity received from her wins through the AAEA juried exhibitions helped her to become visible to the galleries that represent her today. |
Margaret Holland![]() |
Through my journey of life, I have come to realize what's important. It's the little things, like taking a moment to pause and reflect - to restore tranquility to the mind; to stop and listen to the wind in the trees while the birds perch on the branches - for the delight of the ears; or to gaze upon a beautiful sunset - for the refreshment of the eyes. Each of these senses evoke emotion and memories close to us all and through the medium of painting, my desire is to provide that moment. The influence of intense, bold, dynamic colors trigger within, a myriad of vivid emotions and cherished memories. My objective is to use color to create a space in which the viewer can re-create a life experience through each painting. My current choice of media is watercolor or pastel. Although they are both very different, they have their own characteristics, and effectively translate my energy and enthusiasm for life. |

Clarence Kapay![]() |
Imagine the scent of freshly fallen rain and a brilliantly refracted rainbow cascading down on an Indian village in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. Perhaps you can hear an earthshattering crack of lightning as it sizzles across a spattered palette of color, culminating in the formation of a majestic warrior or a bald eagle. Or maybe you can feel the warmth as the darting flames of a campfire illuminate a buffalo hide teepee while directly above, the multi-colored, pulsating columns of light known as the aurora borealis dance in the heavens. These enchanting images remain imaginary until they're brought to life by the paint brush of Plains Cree artist Clarence Kapay.

Cindy Sorley-Keichinger![]() |
Since childhood, I have had a deep interest in all things natural and wild. I was lucky to have parents who encouraged exploring areas of nature, and were firm believers in knowing the plants and animals around us. So, this meant lots of reference books on what was what, to answer my endless questions. Naturally this led to my favourite painting subjects being wildlife and nature. I also like to challenge myself with other areas that feed into that interest, such as landscapes and botanicals/still-life. Since having my children, I have also done figures. I work in several mediums, the main ones being acrylic, gouache (opaque watercolour) and oil. The particular sort of look I am after in a piece will determine which I will use. I like working in oil, acrylic and gouache, because they have the strong colors I prefer to use.

Ed Kemp![]() |
From his childhood, Ed fondly remembers visits to his grandparent's farm in Saskatchewan. Subsequently, many of these rural scenes show up in his work. Old and crumbling buildings, wind-weathered grain elevators, abandoned antique vehicles and trains set in prairie landscapes sing the nostalgia this artist has for those days. However Ed also explores his imagination, evident in the many mountainous, wildlife, seascape and underwater adventures he has taken with his paintbrush. It becomes apparent to the viewer that this artists love of animals and nature are the driving force behind his work.

Shirley Kinneberg![]() |
Oils, acrylics and graphite make up her desired palette of life, as well as experimenting with water colour. There is never a shortage of scenery to paint which is captured by long walks and journeys with her camera and easel by her side.
“Through my eyes and into my soul absorbs the colours of life, form and detail from my hand create the memories in the light, but only heart and sense of mind feels it’s existence of past and present alike.” “As an Artist I love to paint what surrounds me. Simple brush strokes with bold and brilliant colours has always been the choice for me. What I see and portray in a realistic manner may elicit a spark of emotion or memory within another. If this should happen then I truly believe that artist and beholder have shared a wonderful experience together.” |
Andrew Kiss![]() |
A lover of the outdoors, Canadian artist Andrew Kiss often captures his subjects on film and then uses those photographs as a springboard for his imagination, combining the elements of many photos as reference material to form his art composition. A recent expedition to Africa found the British Columbia artist packing more weight in camera equipment than everything else combined. His safari into Kenya and Tanzania was captured in over 7,000 photos and years of materials for his internationally recognized paintings. Canadian artist Andrew Kiss paints animals, birds, floral paintings, nature paintings. |
Patrick Landes![]() |
Patrick Landes seeks to accurately portray the visual language of open range, good horses, smart dogs, tough cattle, and even tougher people: an environment that is now all but lost. His portrayals, of the color, tradition and romance of the contemporary west, are certainties in description couched in artistic probability.
Painting full time, with work now hanging in both private and corporate collections, Patrick is motivated by horizons limited only to the scope of his imagination and hard earned miles of firsthand experience. |
Brent Laycock![]() |
Canadian artist, Brent Laycock, has devoted a lifelong career to understanding and interpreting the Canadian landscape. His paintings in watercolour and acrylic find a resonance with many people because the work communicates the feeling and power of the landscape in a way that goes beyond representation. The most satisfying reward is knowing that people perceive the emotional communication in his work. One person commented "When I look at your paintings, I hear music." Laycock was raised on a prairie farm near Lethbridge, and it was here that he learned to love the expanse of the prairie sky with the Rockies on the western horizon. After receiving an MFA in painting at Brigham Young University in Utah, he returned to Calgary where his artistic career has unfolded. |
Elisabeth Litto![]() |
Elisabeth Littomericzky was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1956. She discovered she was interested in more than designing clothes while attending Schloss Hetzendorf School of Fashion Design. That broader interest laid in creating scenes of colours, shading, and detail; works of art. At the time, she did a lot of drawing, mostly using pencil and crayon. When she realized her interest for art, the Vienna art circle had great artists such as Rudolph Hausner and Ernst Fuchs.

Rhonda Lund![]() |
Though I work in a variety of mediums the original of the work you see here was done in acrylic on canvas. The subjects I choose are a reflection of my own environment and experiences. Years as a hockey parent left me with the impression that underneath the politics of hockey is essentially the influence of the prairie environment; out of the long, harsh and cold winters there came the competitive and vigorous spirit evident in hockey. The Canadian identity is largely influenced by this sport and so I have included symbolic elements such as CNN railway cars and cattails. |
Bernard Major![]() |
'Bernie' made his transition to oil paints several years ago after being a watercolourist most of his adult life. Since then he has immersed himself in this wonderful medium, exploring its endless qualities. A style has emerged rich in colour and texture. This has been achieved while preserving the translucent effect he so loved with water colours. His subjects are wide and varied; from landscapes to still life, from portraits to boats and from animals to life models. He explains, 'Choosing a subject for a new painting is the first important step. I have to feel compelled to paint the subject matter, telling the story I can see is there. Once this is decided, I become absorbed in the process until I am ready to sign the painting'. Bernie is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists with numerous juried competitions to his credit. |
