In the summer of 2001 I was invited to have a solo exhibition at the Icelandic Emigration Center in Hofsos, Iceland. This was my first solo exhibition and a long-held dream come true. Earls' artwork includes Aviation, Wildlife, Seascapes and Trains. |

Gary McGladdery![]() |
I like impressionism, but sometimes I overwork my paintings until they are more like realism. I guess I’m in-between. I try to have good composition in all my paintings. I like to painting old homesteads in the area. I can imagine a time when people lived there. Back then, when they needed to go somewhere they saddled a horse or hitched a buggy or slay. They’re slowly falling down now and disappearing from the landscape, so I want to paint as many as I can. I take pictures in the summer and fall, and paint in the winter. I have lots of things to paint, it seems I’m always ten paintings behind. |
Jackie Miller![]() |
My motivation and inspiration come from the movement and colours of my environment. My paintings are a suggestion of what I encounter daily their interpretation is subject to what you feel.
I paint a number of subjects, from fruits to abstract, infusing vivid color into each image, bringing new life to old topics. The common thread is that each holds and shares a distinctive attitude and presence. From whimsical cityscapes with rhythmic patterns to lose simple images where the paint and it's texture define the painting. Using distinctive, strong and vivid colors, the artist invites you into her images in hopes that it will evoke emotion and interaction. |

John Pagé![]() |
I tend to describe myself as a generalist in that I enjoy painting the major disciplines, portraits, still-lifes, nudes and landscapes.
Looking back on my body of work up to this moment , the majority of my work has been landscapes. Landscapes have a great appeal to me because of my love for the natural world. Nature in all it's wonders is an infinite source of inspiration.
When choosing subject's, panoramic views with the mountains in the background and a lake in the foreground has little appeal to me. Panoramics, from my perspective keep the viewer at a distance. My intent as a painter is to give the viewer a more intimate look at nature. Ideally I try to put the viewer into the scene and point out a slice of nature that they may not have noticed.

Wendy Palmer![]() |
All my life I have been intrigued by nature and the vast variety of subject matter that is everywhere to be found. I have always been fascinated by how nature changes with every second of the day, and with wildlife, their unique and instinctive personalities have always mesmerized me. I can watch storm clouds on a summer night or the animals that reside near our acreage for hours. Even though I wasn't painting at the time, the visions were permanently instilled in me. I have now discovered that I can bring these images to life on the canvas. This was the spark that ignited my thrill of painting and how the magic of simple brush strokes created everything I had imagined. Every artist thrives on passions and obsessions. Bringing to life an expression in an animal or establishing the intimate mood of a landscape is my passion. When my painting starts to come to life and I can feel the texture and envision the illusion of light, the excitement to finish the painting erupts. My love for nature and art combined has helped me generate this unique realism into my paintings. |
Reg Parsons![]() |
'Creating life in sculpture that expresses beauty, passion and strength makes me come alive. I choose my subjects and themes from picturing the finished piece, complete with detail, before my hands touch the clay. I'm challenged to expand my style of realism through varied techniques to capture the life of each piece as my eyes see it.' With unlimited talent as a self taught artist, he looks forward to his next work being his best. Be it a notebook, a canvas, or a lump of clay, he demands excellence in everything he puts his hand to, and gives credit to God as the source of his gifts. Check out Reg Parson's new WEBSITE! |

Jim Pescott![]() |
There are no defining lines in his work. Jim applies acrylic paint to canvas using layered "spots and dots" brush strokes to blend shapes together while also ensuring their uniqueness is supported through strong bright colours. Subject material is sourced from nature and ranges from individual flower blossoms to broad landscapes of fields, prairie, trees, mountains, water and sky that can be found almost anywhere, yet are unique to where people live and call home. Jim has lived in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. He now lives in Calgary, Alberta. "I'm self taught, my style expresses much about how I feel about relationships in nature." |
Bill Philpott![]() |
Quite suitably the skies of Saskatchewan are significant to Bill's work. Home is Central Butte Saskatchewan and largely his subjects exist nearby. Bill recieved wise council as a young artist when he recieved the following advice "To avoid pretenciousness, paint what you know." So Bill continues to paint his home on the prairies.
The area is prime with beauty and interesting characters. I try to capture for posterity the rich patterns in the landscape, the poetry in paint!uniquely the plains of Saskatchewan and of course now we dance in The Land of the Living Skies! Marilyn Prophet![]() |
I capture the peaceful, captivating and powerful wonders of God, our great creator in each of my paintings. I believe it is not enough to look at a painting. You must see and feel it. I would like to evoke passion from the viewer and awaken his/her imagination, bring back forgotten memories and give a sense of inner peace. My techniques are to use the pallet knife on large trees to get the effect of rough bark and mix several colours to get depth and reveal crevices. I take great care to get the fine details look realistic in painting flora and fauna. Mist and fog are evident in many of my landscapes. I prefer the radiant colours of the fall season and winter scenes with lots of snow covered pine trees. I like to paint the open seas with the dark colours leaving a sense of apprehension with boats or ships heaving in the open water. |
Joyce A. Quillian![]() |
I like to think that my work exhibits the interaction of colour, design and natural light, bringing freshness to each subject. Mood, which I illustrate through the design of light and its interplay with the subject of the scene, is a common thread in most of my work. I recently expanded my canvas to the larger dimension of 40 X 40 inches and in some subjects 40 X 60 inches and ventured into the medium of acrylics, thus expanding my communication with the viewer. I love doing commission assignments and taking on the challenge of transferring to canvass the patrons emotion and interpretation of mood in the subject. I have worked with patrons incorporating their artefacts into a still-life. I have also consulted with respect to the commissioning of painting(s) to best suit a particular home d'cor. I use my garden as inspiration for many floral interpretations. |

Ken Ryan![]() |
My favourite subject matter to paint is the figure, set in the Ottawa Valley. I hope to express to the viewer a style that is unique to me, using warm colours, keeping composition simple while stirring a quiet emotion. My years farming made me a much richer and deeper soul, life and death happen everyday. I became a keener observer of weather and nature and mankind. I hope to bring my life experiences to my paintings. From Mr. Raman Frey - Frey Norris Gallery - San Francisco "Your paintings are incredibly powerful and haunting. Your choice of subject matter conveys a natural sense of composition and the dignity and grace of your sitter, as well as a feel for your own place and time." |
Wendy Scalf![]() |
I utilize an impressionistic style in creating my oil paintings of rural scenes and the mountains.
A second passion of mine is photography and driving the backroads of Western Canada looking for old farm buildings, animals and beautiful landscapes. My paintings are referenced mostly from own photos. I attempt to feel my way through each creation and am known for my dark backgrounds and bold focal points. I have shown with the Western Horizon Artist Group since its inception and my paintings hang in many homes. For the last four years I have painted on a full time basis. Visit www.wendyscalf.com |

Don Sibley![]() |
Don continues to create striking oil paintings on canvas using bold warm colours with an intense light source. Still Life compositions are a favourite subject matter especially in the winter months when working outside is not always possible. Working in the comfort of his studio, he is able to position the subject endlessly and move the lights around until everything is just the way he wants it to be before beginning. Some of the work he does is commissioned but many of the paintings on display here are started using sketches done on location in Europe and here in Canada.

Sharon Strand Sigfuson![]() |
Saskatchewan heritage and portrait artist, Sharon Strand Sigfuson spent many years painting wildlife and wildflowers. For the past ten years the artist has studied and developed her first love, the rendition of portraiture and human form. History was always a second love and the artist combined these two interests to create a series of nostalgic heritage works depicting rural life and farming with horses from the early 1900's to the mid 1950's. These compositions were developed from a combination of memories plus family and archival black and white photos. Color reference for these works came from many excursions with her camera into the surrounding countryside to capture the (light of the day), which varies from season to season, day to day and hour to hour.

Edie Szabo![]() |
Using many layers of hues, tones and color temperatures, I mainly paint intuitively while my paintings capture the substance of the landscape without photo realism. Understanding that I can translate my close study of nature into pleasing paintings,I let my imagination take over until I have created a work that is often mystic, spiritual and energetic. The less realistic my work is the more a viewer drawn in and want to stay ..the place has stirred up some feelings and emotions..if I was able to create this moment in a person I did my job well. I'm driven to learn, paint and teach others. |
