Dave Beckett

|
Canadian artist Dave Beckett creates his popular paintings in his studio/gallery, a restored 150 year old log home near Orillia, Ontario. This studio/gallery is also a teaching location for his pastel workshops. When not at home, Dave is gathering material canoeing on a quiet misty lake in Algonquin Park, roaming a secluded beach on the west coast of B.C. or Mexico and sketching the nostalgic rural buildings of early North America. He is in major exhibitions including The Pacific Rim Wildlife exhibition in 1996. The Buckhorn Wildlife Festival is a favourite annual event for Dave;s collectors and has been since 1986. Beckett's paintings are in many private and corporate collections.

Welcome to brownblackandwhite, where we promote the timeless grace and beauty of pencil drawing, and celebrate the creativity of the pencil artist. The gallery is open, our time is yours, and we are delighted that you could join us. We would be very pleased to show you photo realistic celebrity pencil portraits, scenes from the old west,
renderings of vintage steam locomotives, and several limited edition wildlife art prints that are all currently on display. These images are in the form of lifelike black and white graphite pencil drawings.
Please take your time. There is no need to rush because this is one art gallery that does not close. And feel free to return any time. We look forward to seeing you again soon at the site where pencil art is a fine art.

Kent Burles

I was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1955 moving at the age of nine to Montreal.
From filling every available page with doodles at the age of two, my parents shared encouraging words and enrolled me in Art classes at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. I'll never forget the image of the aged Arthur Lismer visiting our class! My interest in art lead me to complete my Art History degree at McGill University.
Common in all my work, is a love of costume, regalia, extraordinary faces and the souls behind those faces. The pages displayed here illustrate my love of visual storytelling and my fascination
with the mystery of past realities. The lives of every human being are shot through with the possiblities and limitations that those past realities imply. I can only hope that I can express even a portion of what that might mean.

Phil Chadwick

|
Phil has always been an artist. His artworks are depictions of personal experiences. They hang in many private and corporate collections around the world. Several magazines and calendars have used his work. All of Phil's work is included in the "Chadwick Art House CD" from the first day of study with Mario Airomi, a famous Italian/Canadian artist, right up to the present. Trends in style, subject matter and technique are all included with nothing is left out. Most of Phil's work is now "en plein air" although he still does some studio and portrait work.
An avid canoeist, Phil believes that a fully equipped paradise needs only a quiet back lake, a canoe, art supplies and a fishing rod. Born in the Thousand Island Region of Ontario, Phil has traveled the width and breadth of Canada before settling in southern Ontario with his family. He and his family continue to find little pieces of paradise everywhere in Canada!

"I love the concept of taking an inanimate object and uncovering this life and movement that defies its exterior, releasing the potential of the space within."
In each piece I strive to convey three motions, not just moments.
We tend to view pieces of art, and especially carvings as one precise moment, frozen in time.
But what brought that exact moment to pass and what will the anticipated result be??
The subjects of my pieces have a history that brought them to this moment in time and will continue past it. So does the stone I use. It, in itself, has a life that continues beyond my work.

Ellen Cowie

|
Ellen treasures the varied gifts in her life, and her strength as an individual reflects in her art. She paints people, places and animals from her heart, yet with an astute sense of reality, so that each painting is a loving representation of the world as seen through her eyes. Ellen's originals and limited edition prints have found their way into collections in England, Switzerland, the United States, and across Canada.

Ken Douglas

I think that I am influenced by all Artists and art itself. Abstract landscape and fantasy are my primary interests, but through commissions I have gained knowledge on all kinds of subjects and styles. So for me art is schooling for life. What will my next painting or drawing be, and what will I learn from it. I hope my art will be enjoyed for the sake of art and maybe even mean something.
From searching within, I ask...what am I doing? Why am I doing it? And what does it look like? I don't know. My art changes and grows as I do. It's a on going exploration and I just try to keep up.

My paintings have appeared in the Hamilton Spectator and various local newspapers in Toronto. I now focus on multicultural type drawings that emphasize my African Heritage and racial unity.
I hope my paintings will, some how help people to come together and fight against discrimination in our society.
I was asked to participate in the 1st Annual Black History Month Art Exhibition for the Canadian Human Rights Commission and I've continued with this exhibition for the past 9 years.
The mediums I like to work with are, Coloured Pencils, Conte, Chalk Pastels and Acrylic.
