Bernard Major

|
“Bernie” made his transition to oil paints several years ago after being a watercolourist most of his adult life. Since then he has immersed himself in this wonderful medium, exploring its endless qualities. A style has emerged rich in colour and texture. This has been achieved while preserving the translucent effect he so loved with water colours. His subjects are wide and varied; from landscapes to still life, from portraits to boats and from animals to life models. He explains, “Choosing a subject for a new painting is the first important step. I have to feel compelled to paint the subject matter, telling the story I can see is there. Once this is decided, I become absorbed in the process until I am ready to sign the painting”.
Bernie is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists with numerous juried competitions to his credit.

Jackie Miller

|
My motivation and inspiration come from the movement and colours of my environment. My paintings are a suggestion of what I encounter daily their interpretation is subject to what you feel.
I paint a number of subjects, from fruits to abstract, infusing vivid color into each image, bringing new life to old topics. The common thread is that each holds and shares a distinctive attitude and presence. From whimsical cityscapes with rhythmic patterns to lose simple images where the paint and it's texture define the painting.
Using distinctive, strong and vivid colors, the artist invites you into her images in hopes that it will evoke emotion and interaction.

Gordon Milne

|
Gordon Milne's portraits are as insightful as they are unique. With the broadest of strokes he is able to capture the most intimate of details.
He chooses colours and shapes which cannot help but evoke an immediate emotional response but they do so much more. They compel the viewer to take the same journey into the subject's soul that fascinated Milne and guided his hand and heart.
At present, Milne is working on a series of commissioned private portraits as well as portraits of dancers with the Alberta Ballet. He is also actively involved in the Sport Heroes Project — a series of portraits of Canadian Olympians in association with the Canadian Sport Centre.

Val Moker

|
Canadian artist Val Moker's strong suit is seen in her attention to detail, displaying in macros of nature's flora and interaction of people in various settings. Her compositions capture atmosphere, character and emotion, resulting in harmonious and crisp compositions that hold the viewer's focus, a true compliment to her ability.
"I have been blessed with the privilege to create. This is something that I have chosen not to take for granted. I am constantly researching, visualizing and then composing pictures in my mind, so that when it comes time to place my brush to canvas or paper, it is a channeling of a vision I've already created. Feelings, thoughts, beliefs, atmosphere . . . these are some of the ingredients that go into the stories that are told in my paintings. Am I looking at the window or through the window?"

Tom Phalen

|
Tom has worked in oils, watercolour and acrylics, but now focuses solely on coloured pencil.
"I find it the ideal medium for the way I work. I get the feel of drawing, but the end result can be made to look like an oil or a watercolour. I can sit down and begin immediately, or get up and walk away if I need to give some thought to a particular problem." Tom's art is mostly still life but he does some fantasy figurative work also. In either case he strives for a high degree of realism.

Dee Poisson

|
Dee's abiding love for dogs stems from her childhood memories of growing up on a cattle ranch near Drumheller, Alberta. The dog was a part of the every day routine of cattle work but at the end of the day the dog was a part of the family. Dee remembers many childhood activities that included the ranch German Shepherd, Smokey. On many occasions, Dee would find herself on the front porch running her small hand over the face of her dog, an act that would prove to be invaluable when she became a dog portrait artist later in life.

Ken Ryan

|
My favourite subject matter to paint is the figure, set in the Ottawa Valley. I hope to express to the viewer a style that is unique to me, using warm colours, keeping composition simple while stirring a quiet emotion. My years farming made me a much richer and deeper soul, life and death happen everyday. I became a keener observer of weather and nature and mankind. I hope to bring my life experiences to my paintings.
From Mr. Raman Frey - Frey Norris Gallery - San Francisco
"Your paintings are incredibly powerful and haunting. Your choice of subject matter conveys a natural sense of composition and the dignity and grace of your sitter, as well as a feel for your own place and time."

Sharon Strand Sigfuson

|
Saskatchewan heritage and portrait artist, Sharon Strand Sigfuson spent many years painting wildlife and wildflowers. For the past ten years the artist has studied and developed her first love, the rendition of portraiture and human form. History was always a second love and the artist combined these two interests to create a series of nostalgic heritage works depicting rural life and farming with horses from the early 1900's to the mid 1950's. These compositions were developed from a combination of memories plus family and archival black and white photos. Color reference for these works came from many excursions with her camera into the surrounding countryside to capture the (light of the day), which varies from season to season, day to day and hour to hour.
The artist works primarily on stretched canvas with oil color. Sharon does commission work, and welcomes you to contact her.
