Revered in ancient Rome and by ancient Native American civilizations, the Golden Eagle was credited by people worlds apart, as having supernatural powers. These civilizations, isolated from one another, shared similar awe when each viewed the Golden Eagle as a messenger linking mankind with deities. Crowned by golden-edged contour feathers to the nape area on the back and to the chest in front, it glides majestically with a wingspan of more than two meters. Its size and outstanding qualities have ornithologists agreeing that this regal predator is the "king of birds" and likely the most highly evolved of the birds of prey. Unlike the Bald Eagle, which inhabits North America only, the Golden Eagle is universal and ranges over Eurasia as well as North America. In the composition, "Eagle of Legends", the Golden Eagle, looking over its shoulder, is perched on a snag. It symbolizes true wilderness ruling over a kingdom of unscalable mountains and unworkable foothills. Deep valleys an steep slopes provide updrafts on which this lord of the sky soars with unparalleled dignity, grace and beauty.
