Canadian Artist Gwen Burroughs

Biography

It was somewhat later in life, that Gwen first explored watercolor painting. After a particularly grueling surgery and a subsequent yearlong recovery period Gwen discovered she was meant to be an artist. Her natural aptitude for painting allowed her to embrace art as a way of expressing herself while tapping into a reservoir of creativity and spiritual connection. She continues to draw inspiration from the legacy of her Grandmother, May Burrington, and Great Uncle, Arthur Burrington, a European painter.

Gwen further honed her skills through private study and workshops with individuals such as Alex Fong and Anne Hunter. In 1993 she turned her painting into a full-time career and is currently a member of the Interpretations Artist Association of Calgary, AB, Canada. Her work has been exhibited in the Offices of the Minister of Community Development, You be the Judge Gallery, The Muttart Gallery, Sussex Gallery, Hendrix Gallery, and Watermark Gifts. Private collectors all over the world have purchased Gwen's art, including Western Canada, Vancouver, Toronto, San Diego, New York, Phoenix, Nevada, Iowa, Oklahoma, London England and Venezuela.

Gwen's zest of life and enjoyment of the natural environment, especially flowers and animals, come through in her subjects. She prefers to let her intuition guide her work as the painting unfolds and often finds she's enthralled in the process as "time slips away". No subject is too challenging for Gwen as her watercolors depict a variety of sources from realist to abstract, involving portraiture, flowers, animals, and landscapes.

Watercolor painting has allowed Gwen to find her special place in the world, a way to relax and express her heartfelt creative spirit. In sharing her work with you it is her hope that you will also take a deep breath and find joy in the moment.
