 Heather Anderson |
West coast artist Heather E. Anderson has dedicated her talents to interpreting the world around her. She loves to take the ordinary and create vibrant paintings rich in bold colours.
The artist's current body of work portrays the urban life of established neighbourhoods in a fond and whimsical way. The interplay of light and shadow portrayed in colourful geometric shapes is her fascination.
Heather (nee: Boyle), born in 1957 in Vancouver, Canada, became interested in painting at an early age. At age ten, she began years of study that became a ritual every Saturday morning. Heather would gather up her oil paints and devote the morning to painting at the local recreation centre. In grade 10, Heather was encouraged to continue in fine arts after winning the best artist award for her junior high school. At age 15, Heather was taking life drawing courses at Vancouver Vocational Institution.
After high school, she studied fine arts at Langara College, Vancouver, B.C. That summer Heather took an art history course (through Langara College) that just happened to take place in Europe for 3 ˝ months. After returning, Heather decided to drop out of art school - it just did not seem practical. She earned enough money and immediately went back Europe for another extended holiday.
Next Heather packed up her bags and moved to Toronto to study fashion design at Ryerson University. Heather saw fashion as a practical extension of the creative process. After graduating, Heather worked in the fashion industry for several years as an assistant designer.
Currently, Heather lives in Coquitlam, B.C. is married and has three children. Heather is accomplished in oils, acrylics and watercolours which she began exhibiting in 1995. Her work is held in private collections in Canada, USA, Brazil and Japan.
