Margaret Holland

|
Painting provides Margaret a visual means of communicating her passion for life. She is inspired by the vitality of the world around her and enjoys the challenges of capturing a mood, or depicting the interplay between light and shadow through the use of varying tones of colour.
The contrast of light and shadow on such varying textures as wood, stone, or fur is what often initially attracts Margaret's artistic eye. She then captures, on paper or canvas, the moods and emotions evoked at that particular moment.
While her subjects can range from animals to buildings to landscapes to portraits, her choice of media is usually either water ("because you never know what you're going to get--like a box of chocolates") or pastels ("because it has a velvet texture that just feels good").

Maureen Leitch

|
Maureen was born in England to Irish parents and spent her early years between both countries. She comes from a line of artists and musicians and her passion for art stems from childhood. She has been greatly influenced by her surroundings of soft countryside and historical architecture and creates quiet drama found in the subject matter. She particularly enjoys painting from life, and works principally in watercolour and oil.
Maureen's work has a distinct style with consistent use of texture and value despite the varied subject matter. She has studied at the University of Calgary and Red Deer Art College as well as privately. Maureen continues to grow in her artistic endeavours and enjoys the success of having numerous paintings in private collections both in North America and overseas.

Larry Mark

|
I love light and the way it defines an object. I strive to express
light and its properties in my paintings and, at this time, I am using watercolor as my chosen medium.
The translucency of watercolor allows me to explore the way light reacts with objects and it lets me show light's
ability to be absorbed, refracted, or reflected. Watercolor also
lets me show the viewer that, even when blended together, the various colors used can still show through individually or as a completely new color thus creating interest in the painting.
I will continue to increase my knowledge of the watercolor medium as well as explore light using oil, acrylic, colored pencil, and graphite.
