Canadian Artist Irene Clarke

Biography

I am a Canadian, born and raised in the Pontiac (Beside the Picanoc River). That's where my love of the countryside began. I have always had a keen interest in painting and was encouraged into the field by my elementary art teacher. I took my painting more serious when I married and moved to Quyon Quebec, took every art course that was offered in Quyon.

Since then I have taken numerous courses from both individual teachers and accredited schools. I took several correspondence courses which included Arts and Crafts, and a two year course in art with ICS (International Correspondence School of Art). I also studied painting and sketching for two terms at the Ottawa Technology School.

Later I studied under Peter Germotte at his studio in Ottawa and took a couple of folk art courses with various teachers in Ottawa. I also took a course at CEGEP and Ottawa Technology in wood carving.

My Paintings have been displayed in the Bank of Montreal in Quyon and in Shawville, the Pontiac Community Hospital, several art shows and fairs and at the Ottawa Little Theatre. I have been commissioned to paint over thirty homesteads. I designed the cover on one of the year books for Jean Paul High school and did illustrations for a book written by Venecia Crawford (The Polish Hills).
Some of my paintings are currently displayed at the doctor's office in Quyon.

McKenny's Farm - By Canadian Artist Irene Clarke I really enjoy creating my own scenes from my imagination, allowing me to modify my painting as I desire as opposed to painting from a picture. This lateral shift has further sparked my creativity and I hope to create more imaginary scenes and expand my skill with animals. . I designed and built my own web site and named it (artfromwithin.ca) because I feel that my paintings are artfromwithin.

Artist Statement:

I have a wide variety of interest but always come back to the Paintbrush. My paintings are mostly imaginary unless I am doing a commissioned work. I take a lot of photographs and look for scenes that are silently sitting there wanting someone to discover them. I might start my painting from something in a photograph or an idea but from there on the painting creates itself. You may, find a wild animal roaming about in my paintings.
