ZACCARELLI'S STORE
15 7/8" x 10 7/8"
Framed Limited Edition print: $275.00
John Zaccarelli, a Yukon pioneer of '98, opened his store in Dawson City around 1902. He sold everything from books to bananas. He had a complete stock of stationary, fruits, domestic and imported cigars, smokers' articles, confectionary, etc. Zaccarelli also published the greatest number and variety of postcards around the 1900s, more than any other business at the time. Early in 1908, John Zacarelli published a heavily illustrated souvenir brochure titled "Zaccarelli's Pictorial Souvenir Book of the Golden Northland." Its 192 black and white photographic reproductions provided a comprehensive look at Dawson in the first decade of the twentieth century. The book and postcards Zacarelli produced were of high quality and are prized by collectors. This painting was derived from two excellent photographs of the exterior and interior, plus a little imagination. The store was located at 109 King Street. Both photographs were taken by E.O. Ellingsen. A rack of postcards is visible to the left of the door. Dawson tax rolls between 1907 and 1922 consistently show Zaccarelli at the same King Street location. To date, no precise date for the termination of the business has been found.
