Biography

Kevin Joyce was born in 1966 Toronto Ontario, Canada.

In his early years he would often go on sketching trips along the Rouge valley in Scarborough.

Kevin's gift became apparent early on-he garnered a third and first place awards for his graphite work at the Canadian National Exhibition at just 15 and 16 years old respectively.

Unfortunately after the tragic drowning death of his brother Rodney, he didn't pick up a pencil or brush for nearly two decades until 2006 when he joined the Muskoka Arts & Crafts.

He has quickly made his mark in the arts community. His graphite drawing titled Aging Gracefully won an award of excellence at the 2007 Muskoka Arts & Crafts spring members show, and he also took second place overall at Kempenfest Arts & Crafts Festival Barrie Ontario that same year.

In 2008 he was one of 41 artists from across Canada selected to show and sell his work at the revered McMicheal Gallery Kleinburg Ont.

In 2010 he received special recognition for two graphite drawings entered in the 11th Annual International Realism Exhibition featured on UpstreamPeopleGallery.com. His drawings being so detailed can take upwards of four months. One his former teachers at Wexford Collegiate Institute where he studied art once commented his drawings where ''Scrimshaw-like''(Scrimshaw is the incredibly detailed drawing and carving on whale bone by 19th century artists.

Two artists who inspired Kevin growing up where the late Canadian artist Ken Danby and American graphite artist Paul Calle. Kevin also works in oil, acrylics, and watercolours where he focuses more on breathtaking colour and composition. His subject matter ranges from old buildings, found relics, and the epic grandeur of the Canadian landscape.

Kevin occasionally accepts commission work when time permits. Kevin would also like to extend a big thank you to family, friends, and clients for there support and encouragement since returning to art in 2006.
