La Cloche Mountains Killarney

In October of 2009 a friend and artist Peter Ripley invited me on a day trip to visit Killarney Provincial park to take some photographs for reference material. This was my first visit to Killarney and won't be my last, as i was inspired by the absolute breathtaking scenery. I can see why the Group of Seven visited this area many times. Group member A.J. Casson was once quoted as saying "I don't think i ever got as much material as I did around La Cloche. You don't have to hunt, you could get into one spot and work. He wasn't kidding, this painting was from a photo I took from the Granite Ridge Hiking trail. I always like my very large paintings to put the viewer in the scene, and I feel this painting accomplishes that with it's sweeping panoramic views of the La Cloche mountains.
