Title: Stonehenge, England, 1999

On the way to Cornwall, England's picturesque west coast, lies Stonehenge, oddly placed between a main highway and rolling farmland. I was a bit concerned we'd miss it as the maps were vague and didn't show a precise locale, but my British mate said confidently in a strong accent, shaking her head, 'Oh no, its right there. You can't miss it.' She was right. Just when I'd started to lose faith and believed we were lost, it appeared on the horizon as if out of nowhere. Big, bold, beautiful...and completely surrounded by chain link fence...a photographer's worst nightmare! It was also dark with heavy rain, and I was soaked within seconds of stepping from our car. I vowed to return on our way back to London and hoped the weather had cleared by then. We arrived back just before the tourist venue hosting and protecting Stonehenge closed for the evening, and I was able to photograph this amazing architectural phenomenon during the Fall Solstice just before sunset.
