Marc LaCaille

Marc LaCaille Canadian Artist
Marc LaCaille
Biography

Marc LaCaille's artwork is often described as evocative, bright and colorful -a feast for the eyes and soul. It is the expression of a moment, an idea or an emotion through the constant exploration of lines, forms and colours. It is the constant pursuit of a delicate harmony between the subjective response and the internal structuring of an object, a person or a scene. The structure of the painting is as important as its content.

Lacaille's signature style is personal and authentic. It is the result of research, experimentation and, like the artist says, the intense winter light of the North. Solid composition and a unique way of combining colours characterise Marc's images. His inspiration comes from life, people and nature. He finds them fascinating. They provide the raw material from which everything he does is conceived. His medium of predilection is acrylic on canvas. He enjoys acrylics for the precision and freedom it gives him. Other mediums that the artist uses with competence are pencil, ink and watercolour.

During the last four years, Marc has produced an impressive body of work. He has participated to many exhibitions, solo and group and, his work has sold from coast to coast. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University and a Teaching Certificate from Laval University. Marc lives with his family and teaches in Prince George, British Columbia.

The Tramp by Canadian Artist Marc LaCaille
Artists Statement

I am an explorer
Hiking the path of emotional and physical perceptions
Intuitively climbing up for lines and patches of colours
Traveling and crossing Art streams and medium.
Stopping only to absorb my surroundings
And refilling my pack with knowledge.

On the trail, I meet individuals.
Each one with a different tale given away
By a visage carved by gist.
Each one is etching my soul in a different way.

Where I set my canvas up
The landscape is spiritual.
Its uniqueness is ageless and transitional.
It's part of something larger, more enduring than I.

On my journey,
From dawn to dusk
I encounter hills and meadows.
I draw the colourful ones on my heart,
Smudging the rest around by the campfire
Before marching on toward the next summit.
