I was born in Ottawa, Ontario and at an early age began to paint. I would take long walks in the woods with my family and we often went on picnics near a beautiful creek not far from home. I always took my drawing pallet so that I could sketch scenes. I was captivated by the incredible beauty of nature. The thought of my becoming an artist was one of my dreams.
Art seemed to be natural for me and I pursued my gift later in life by taking private art lessons and at the Ottawa School of Art. I specialize in realistic landscape scenes. I capture the peaceful, captivating and powerful wonders of God, our great creator in each of my paintings.
My appreciation and love of nature has inspired me to go even further in perfecting the techniques that will bring out the realism, depth and texture of every living thing in nature.
In the last few years, I have been incorporating majestic mountains with old rustic cabins and barns that leave the viewer with a sense of nostalgia for their heritage. I believe it is not enough to look at a painting. You must see and feel it. I would like to evoke passion from the viewer and awaken his/her imagination, bring back forgotten memories and give a sense of inner peace. My husband and I go boating in remote lakes and take photographs of beautiful scenes and then I turn them into paintings.
My techniques are to use the pallet knife on large trees to get the effect of rough bark and mix several colours to get depth and reveal crevices. I take great care to get the fine details look realistic in painting flora and fauna. Mist and fog are evident in many of my landscapes. I prefer the radiant colours of the fall season and winter scenes with lots of snow covered pine trees. I like to paint the open seas with the dark colours leaving a sense of apprehension with boats or ships heaving in the open water.
I have sold paintings at private art shows and have done commissioned art work.
