DIGGETY DOGGETY!!
When friends Jerimiah, 'Rocket' Robin and Elijah walk down the street these cool winter days, it is never without fanfare. Dressed in cozy fleece fabric coats and matching hats featuring moose, deer, horse, bear motifs, the three rather hirsute fellows catch the eye of many bypassers. No surprise: they are dogs.

These days the prancing poodle-mix dogs prefer their outfits designed by their owner, an artist who, on a whim one day in the fall, whipped up a pair of coats and hats to keep the chill off her pet friends. "I was surprised by how quick they adjusted to wearing them, but I was even more surprised by how much other dog walkers loved them," says Norene Procter. "One woman actually stopped her van in traffic to ask me where I got the coats because she'd love to get one for her 'big old Rottweiler'."

But Procter, who makes a living painting silk wall hangings, scarves and fashion accessories around the world, says even then it didn't occur to her to create a sideline business making doggie coats for other people's pets.

It seemed like a silly idea at first," says Procter. But after getting into it, there's no looking back. She purchased tons of fabrics with xmas images, wildlife, country scenes, brightly coloured plaids, fishermen, bikers, psychedelic floral prints!, and much much more!

Today, she's designing the colourful and cozy coats and hats in sizes xxs, xs, sm, med. and lrg. for dogs everywhere. There are 3 labels on the coats and hats. Two labels include washing instructions, info on the artist and the outside label which goes on the colar of the coat simply reads: Diggety Doggety!! by artist Norene Procter. "My market is pretty much anywhere says Procter, who named her business Diggety Doggety!! Made of anti-pill fleece, each outfit is an original and some hats come with such accessories as kilt pins for plaid coats, ribbons, bows or vintage buttons.

The artist, who loves the wild beauty of the Rockies, tours her dogs all over the province of Alberta. For information on Diggety Doggety coats and hats, contact Procter at silks@nucleus.com or visit her art website, www.nucleus.com/~silks. Or call her at (403) 242-6102

SIX FOOT SILKS
Six Foot Silks was established in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 1984. Canadian born artist Norene Procter's creations arose from a strong love of nature. Hiking and canoeing inspired many of her images of animals, and countryside.

The self-taught artist paints city scenes, the arts; dance and music, and many countryside scenes.

She individually hand paints on 100% white silk using artist brushes and silk dyes. The silk is then wrapped, and steam set for close to 2 hours. This process sets the dyes making the silks washable.

The artist has gained international recognition with her picturesque images. Among her clients are the Prime Minister's office, CBC, and the Mayor of Calgary. Her works have been well received as unique Canadian gifts. She has gained international media attention.

Norene's unique portrayal of her love of nature and the country is truly conveyed in her work. Wear your silk with the free spirit it was created with!
