In his undergraduate years he studied under several of Canada's leading painters and sculptures including Otto Rogers, Ernst Lindner, Robert Murray and William Epp. The intervening 38 years was a worldwide journey of design & discovery. Eleven years of corporate marketing and advertising were followed by the incorporation of Alm Advertising and Marketing Ltd 1977. With a major hotel chain as a client, a lifetime goal to provide creative services and travel the globe had begun. As an avid outdoorsman, Richard's moutain bike saw many countries. In 1985, with an opportunity to create and build world class industrial design & exhibitry, Alm incorporated Exhibit Design Technologies International (EDTI). The company was exhibit or prime contractor for 11 pavilions at Expo 86 in Vancouver.
In 1987 Richard, through EDTI, created and manufactured a portable beverage system branded WineSoda Beverages, presented the product at Expo 88 Brisbane, and subsequently sold the technology to an Australian corporation. Over the next 12 years, Richard's industrial design expertise saw the creation and production several other inventions including an interactive truckers kiosk and a video lottery terminal. He holds a patent pending on a television signal called LE (Live Environment) TV that replicates all of the human senses including motion & smell, broadcast live froma remote location.
