My son Matthew had finished his morning hockey game at a tournament in Calgary and I had some free time. I had wanted always wanted to go to Drumheller to photograph landscapes, but never had the chance. After driving around the countryside and taking photographs of various scenes, I decided to head back to Calgary. It was getting late and I was in hurry to get back. However, after driving for about 10 to 15 miles towards Highway 2, I noticed these dramatic storm clouds to my north and yet the sun was still lighting everything. I had to stop, getting back didn’t matter anymore. I then started to look for something that I could utilize in the foreground that would convey the dramatic scene before my eyes. I decided to turn north down this gravel road and stopped at the top of a hill, where I had a good overview of what I wanted to convey.
