Val Moker is a two-dimensional artist whose passion displays in her diverse range of figurative art that blends atmosphere, character and emotion in crisply engaging compositions. Val began her art career in the early 1980's as a teacher of the visual arts after receiving an education degree and an arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Moker's work has appeared in such venues as Aim for Arts International Art Competition, Calgary Stampede Western Art Showcase, Cowboys & Indians Magazine, Dean Smith Celebrity Rodeo, International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art, Laredo Center for the Arts International Art Show, Rolling Pin International Magazine, Rough Rider International Art Show, Motion Picture & Television Fund - Golden Boot Awards and Women Artists of the West International Art Competition. Among Val's many citations, most notable are the Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Medallion Award, the Calgary Stampede Western Art Showcase Best New Artist Award and the Canadian Portrait Academy's Peoples' Choice Award. "I grew up on a farm, close to the earth, and sought every occasion after the work was done to take solitary walks and seize the ravishing beauty of nature. Weekly trips to the city would allow me to break away from the toils of the country, granting me the privilege of observing people in a variety of settings where I would imagine the different backgrounds & cultures that brought these common folk to that place in time. The longing to explore humanity continues to stimulate my creative palette. From the beginning, the driving force to paint was my need to have these split second emotions of the moment, made indelible." Moker's dedication and striving for connection between her work and her audience places Val among one of today's growing talents in the International art community.
