Gena M LaCoste
Raised in a ranching family on the southern Alberta prairie, Gena LaCoste has been drawing and painting all her life.
Her perspective on that rural lifestyle, the sun drenched landscape, people and animals, (especially horses) brings to all of a glimpse into a life and skill set that we’re in danger of losing to increasing urbanization.
Because her work is entirely from her own experience, the authenticity of her paintings rings true. Already a prolific painter, Gena decided 5 years ago to become a “Daily Painter”. The commitment she made was to do a painting-a-day and post it on her blog. Since that time, Gena has uploaded nearly 1400 original paintings to genalacoste.blogspot.ca, along with a paragraph or 2 about the painting, providing her followers with snippets of life in rural western Canada. The artist herself will tell you that she has benefitted hugely as an artist from this practice, both as a painter and as an observer of the world she feels so blessed to live in.
