Ken Ryan Biography
Many years ago our family had a complete lifestyle change. We bought a farm, in Lanark County Ontario, raising both purebred and commercial sheep. We have stopped farming but still reside here on the farm; a perfect setting for concentrating on my passion for painting.
As part of my re-kindled focus on art, in 2003 I submitted a painting to the Oil Painters of America for their National Exhibit Contest in Seattle, Washington. I was selected by a jury comprised of some of the best artists in the U.S.A. It was truly an inspiring moment.
I paint with oils primarily focussing on both the figure and still-lifes set here in Lanark. It is my hope, that I'm expressing to the viewer a style that is unique to me, using warm colours, keeping composition simple while stirring a quiet emotion. My farming period made me a much richer and keener observer, of weather, nature and mankind. I hope to bring my life experiences to my paintings. Thank you for your interest in my work.
From Mr. Raman Frey. Frey Norris Gallery. San Francisco
"Your paintings are incredibly powerful and haunting. Your choice of subject matter conveys a natural sense of composition and the dignity and grace of your sitter, as well as a feel for your own place and time."
A Shared Philosophy, Quoting Paul C'zanne...
"A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art. Emotion is the starting point, the beginning and the end. Craftsmanship and technique are in the middle."
