Animal art for sale of the adorable Hoary Marmot. His personality shines through in this wall art mixed media painting that will elicit comments and curiosity. White or grey-white, this marmot is coloured like the hoarfrost, which is where he takes his name. Commonly seen in Glacier National Park in the Columbia Mountains, Marmots are "large, diurnal (of the day), burrowing rodents of the squirrel family" (The Canadian Encyclopedia). This makes the marmot closely related to the squirrel, and cousins of the beaver. There are four species that live in Canada: yellow-bellied, hoary, Vancouver Island and the groundhog, who is also known as the woodchuck.

I saw this flighty and cautious rodent atop Avalanche Crest, a mountain day hike in Glacier. Though he kept his distance from me, his antics were on display while he scratched in the sunlight.

Glacier National Park in British Columbia is described by Parks Canada as "exceptional alpine scenery and deep valleys filled with ancient forests, Glacier National Park is a year-round paradise. Scale its heights following trails pioneered by legendary Swiss mountain guides, take a gentle stroll amid moss-draped old-growth cedars or hike through alpine meadows strewn with lichen-covered boulders. After a day’s exploring, sink into an armchair before a roaring fire and steep yourself in the history of Rogers Pass, the final link in the railway that brought Canada together as a nation."

All of the animals that I paint I have seen, as I work from my own photography.

1. This work is finished with five layers of varnish to protect it from UV light and dust.
2. The work does not come framed, but the edges are both painted black and varnished.
3. A wire is pre-installed and the work is ready to hang.
4. My signature appears on the front of the work and my Certificate of Authenticity is included.
