Morning Tide by Canadian Artist Maxine Boss
Morning Tide by Maxine Boss

Artist Statement

"For me, painting is like life - you want an end product that you can be proud of - that tells people something about you, your beliefs and values.

It's about sharing a part of yourself.
It's a balance between wanting others to "feel the moment" that caused you to paint that particular subject in that particular way, yet knowing and allowing that others will interpret and feel it in their own way.
And while the end product is important to the process of getting there (as in life) is equally valuable.
Each blank page is a new challenge and watching the paint do it's magic is always stimulating, sometimes frustrating and usually fun.
Painting has allowed me to see colour, texture and light with a new eye, a more appreciative eye.
In the end, life, like painting is a collection of moments shared."

Artist Biography

Maxine Boss is an Alberta artist residing in Calgary for the last 30 years.

She was born in High Prairie and grew up in several small farming communities in the province. After many diverse career choices from psychiatric nursing to sales management to real estate she discovered painting in 1993.

Watercolours were her first passion and this has evolved into a love of watercolour and collage mixed media pieces. Oils have also been added to her repertoire.

Her subject matter varies greatly but a love of open spaces and big skies frequently appear in her landscapes, whether it be prairie, ocean or desert.

The watercolour /collage pieces may take another twist- often veering towards non-representational or abstract themes.

Maxine is a current member of Interpretations Artist' Association and her work may be viewed at their shows.
